The Area

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and has incredibly diverse scenery. Primarily chosen for its climate and beaches, Tenerife boasts many attractions including Carnival, the world's second largest party after Rio.

Tenerife's year round sunny climate is somewhat modified in the north by the impressive mountain range that divides the island. The lush landscape is covered by banana plantations, pinewoods and many rare plants. Puerto de la Cruz is the most popular resort in the north, just 35kms away from Santa Cruz, in the Orotava Valley. Originally a fishing village, it is now a sophisticated town with tempting shops, bars, restaurants and even a casino. Many locals live here, giving Puerto an authentically Spanish atmosphere to merge with its superb amenities and range of quality hotels and nightlife.

In stark contrast to the north, the south is very dry, proven by the variety of cacti and enjoys almost constant sunshine. Playa de las Americas is the major resort here, but much development has taken place along the southern coastline, offering something for everyone. Adjacent to Playa de las Americas is Los Cristianos which offers some of the best beaches on the island and a somewhat slower more relaxed pace. Much of the resort is closed to traffic making it a pleasure to stroll around. There are a good choice of bars and restaurants here, whilst the vibrant, bustling nightlife of Playa de las Americas is only a few minutes away by bus.

Activities

You can enjoy one of the numerous water sports including windsurfing, sailing and scuba diving. There are also golf, tennis and go karting facilities available. The Tiede National Park is well worth visiting, as are the Botanical Gardens, Loro Wildlife Park and Sea World Paradise. There are also numerous sailing excursions available. Day or night Tenerife has something for everyone.
